Coffee and traditional sweeties reception
Thursday, 18 February 2016 at hrs 16:45-17:30
Al Bustan Palace – Exhibition Area

The Omani people are well known for their hospitality and usually the first thing that most visitors sample is Omani coffee, which is called “kahwa”. Rich and aromatic, kahwa has a strong and remarkable taste since it is flavoured with cardamom and served without sugar. Serving Omani coffee has certain traditions to be observed, for e.g. it is served in small cups, only a quarter full, and accompanied with dates and Omani halwa (typical flavourful sweet) which help offset the bitter taste.

The Coffee Master will introduce the participants to the history of this popular beverage and demonstrate ‘live’ the art of preparing and serving it in the traditional way.

Participants are invited to the coffee stations in the exhibition area to taste this beverage, accompanied by “halwa” the traditional dessert, sweets and salty snacks.

Participation in the Omani Coffee Reception is included in the congress registration fee.

Al Bustan Palace – Beach Pavilion

The Congress Dinner will be held in a very unique venue, located on a beautiful private beach in the fascinating city of Muscat.
The Al Bustan Palace, originally built to host the Gulf Cooperation Council, is close to the spectacular Qasr al Alam Royal Palace, the Sultan Armed Forces Museum, and the Al Jalali Fort. This magnificent hotel boasts a unique setting surrounded by dramatic mountains, tranquil landscaped gardens and a spectacular private beachfront. With its intricately handcrafted wall coverings and luxurious interiors, this place has rightly earned its reputation as the “Jewel of the Sultanate”.

The dinner will be the occasion for the participants to spend a special evening of entertainment and fine “Omani cuisine” to experience Omani heritage and tradition, as well as an alternative opportunity for pleasant discussions and informal interaction.

To pay tribute to Omani hospitality, traditional costumes are strongly recommended as dress code for this evening.
It will be possible to rent or purchase the costume on site at the Local Information – Tours and Transportation Desk.

Confirmation for the participation will be made to participants by a coupon, to be found in the congress kit. The coupon must be exchanged with the entrance ticket at the Secretariat Desk within 19 Friday at 10.00 am.
Entry to the Beach Area of Al Bustan Palace for dinner will not be allowed without the entrance pass.
Tickets for accompanying persons may be purchased on site at the New Registration Desk. On site registration will be accepted according to availability.
